Now accepting submissions for the March 2010 issue:
The School of Arts and Sciences Communications Team solicits articles for its February issue of ASpect. Since the President has convened a committee on the core as part of a national initiative for college Presidents this year to have this sort of discussion on their campuses, the theme of this issue is “the Core Curriculum.” Potential authors may consider a wide range of issues within the topic, including but not limited to:
- What is the core’s function?
- How much freedom or restrictions should students have?
- What constitutes learning?
- What skill sets should students have, and why?
- The flow sheets (left side and right side).
- What do we expect incoming students to know or be able to do (skill sets)?
- Should the core focus on skill sets instead of requiring particular courses?
Articles should be roughly 1000-2000 words. Send ideas, abstracts, or full drafts to the Communications Team.
ASpect publishes three issues per academic year online at http://aspectwebsite.com . Articles are aimed at a wide, generally non-specialist audience of SSC faculty, alumni, and North Shore professionals.
Submissions Due: February 8, 2010
Submit To: soasASpect@gmail.com
General Instructions
Articles of any academic focus–historical, controversial, philosophical, pedagogical, interdisciplinary, belletristic, or other–are welcomed. ASpect accepts multimedia submissions – still images, audio and video recordings.
Submissions not pertaining to an announced theme may be considered for a future issue on a more relevant theme.
Potential authors are encouraged to submit ideas to the Communications Team at soasASpect@gmail.com before a formal submission. Authors also may request a copy of the ASpect style sheet.
